Law enforcement agencies, military and security personnel, gun clubs, collectors and some gun shops/gunsmiths rely on ultrasonic cleaner systems for fast, thorough firearm cleaning and lubricating. This is why regularly scheduled cleaning of your firearms is your best way to keep your gun investment in top condition.
How an Ultrasonic Gun Cleaner Works
We all know how important it is to regularly clean and lubricate your firearms. It not only protects your investment, it ensures your firearms function properly and safely. Manual cleaning with brushes, sprays and lubricants are messy and time consuming.
Regularly scheduled sessions in an ultrasonic gun cleaner will remove potentially harmful contaminants and residues left behind by manual methods.
The secret to superior firearm cleaning is what is called ultrasonic cavitation.
Cavitation is caused by the implosion of billions of minute bubbles in a heated biodegradable ultrasonic cleaning solution as they contact ALL components of the firearm immersed in the solution.
These bubbles are created by ultrasonic transducers bonded to the bottom of an ultrasonic gun cleaning tank and operated at frequencies such as 37 or 45 kHz (37,000 or 45,000 cycles per second). The imploding bubbles quickly and safely loosen and remove grease, powder residues, shavings and other contaminants that interfere with reliable and safe firearm operation. So tiny are the bubbles that they penetrate minute cracks, crevices and blind holes impossible to reach with manual cleaning methods, solvents and brushes.
Even if the firearm is only field stripped, this cavitation can reach into the areas not totally disassembled. However, at IGY6 GUNSMITHING LLC we totally disassemble the firearm.
Maintaining the Weapon After Cleaning
After the firearm has been cleaned in the cleaner, the weapon needs to be rinsed, dried and lubricated. There is a special lubricant that is used in the ultrasonic lube tank, and the firearm is totally lubricated by cavitation, the same way it is cleaned. The lubricant also dries to a protective coating on all components, inside and out.
Upon reassembly, us here at IGY6 GUNSMITHING LLC, hand lube all the critical parts to ensure smooth operation.
Don’t Forget About Cosmoline
When you purchase a new or surplus gun, it is important to clean it BEFORE beginning to use them. New or surplus guns are often coated in a substance called COSMOLINE. This substance is used to protect the weapon from moisture and rust. If stored for a period, this substance turns into a waxy substance. Ultrasonic gun cleaning as well as WD40 will remove cosmoline, but remember, do not use WD40 on your firearm at any time other than to remove cosmoline.
