The Pros and Cons of Buying Guns Online

Buying merchandise online is more popular than ever. Firearms, ammo, optics, and accessories are no exception. But, is it legal? Is it safe? Is it cost-effective? The simple answer is YES. However, being informed is important for making the right selection. That’s where IGY6 comes in. We can help you find the right gun.

HOW DOES BUYING A GUN ONLINE WORK?

Online gun dealers are rated just like any other retailer. Online dealers must have a Federal Firearms License and will offer a variety of products. However, firearms cannot be shipped directly to an unlicensed buyer. It must be shipped to a licensed dealer (FFL) near the buyer. This is where a place like IGY6 comes in handy. We are a licensed dealer and can act as the middle-man for your purchase.

With that said, there are some pros and cons to purchasing a gun online.

PROS

  • Online gun dealers usually can offer better deals than your typical brick-and-mortar stores. Less overhead means savings to the buyer. Plus you can shop anytime day or night from the comfort of your own home.
  • You can also do research into gun accessories such as scopes and sights to help you become more informed.
  • You can also often find flash sales or special discounts that are applied for online purchases only.
  • You also have access to a wider selection than what a physical store will have.

CONS

  • Along with usually a cheaper price tag, the firearm will come with a shipping charge. Once the local FFL receives the gun and the buyer goes to pick it up, the FFL will usually charge a small transfer fee.
  • Perhaps the biggest disadvantage is not personally handling the firearm before purchase. To solve this, visit your local gun shop, check out what you’re about to order online, and compare the price. You always want to put your hand on the gun before you purchase it to make sure it fits comfortably.
  • Because you are purchasing online and because there is a process to having the gun in hand, you will have to wait longer than you would if you purchase it directly from a store.
  • Also, if your gun has problems it is much more difficult to get it serviced based on your warranty. Since many dealers warranty their products many times you can just bring your gun into a physical location to get fixed. However, this is where your local Certified Gunsmith like IGY6 comes in handy as well.

Some Final Thoughts

Although buying a gun has some drawbacks, in my experience, those drawbacks are minimal compared to what you save by purchasing online. If you want to check out some of the top-rated online gun dealers in the business take a look at the Gun Store. If you are in the Geneva, Nebraska area get in contact with me. My FFL is registered with those listed.
