Memorial Day…

Memorial Day, what it Means

Memorial Day is an American holiday, observed on the last Monday of May.  It was designated to honor the men and women who died while serving in the U. S. Military.  It became an official holiday in 1971.  Before that it and since the Civil War it was known as Decoration Day.

Etiquette

Most look forward to a long weekend, celebrated with family and friends, enjoying various activities and of course BBQ!!  But to many it’s a solemn day, a sad day, purposely set aside to remember and honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

It is traditionally not a “happy” holiday.  A good rule of thumb is not to wish someone a “Happy Memorial Day”.  Have a “good” or “nice” Memorial Day is more appropriate.

It is also not a day to thank someone for their service.  There are holidays set aside for this as well.

We may not know anyone who gave the ultimate sacrifice, but we all owe them.  So, over this long weekend please keep the reason for this holiday in mind, and please be respectful.

“No Greater Love has any Man, Than One Who Will Lay Down His Life for His Brother”

Have a great weekend

God Bless and Be Safe Out There
